Roughage Buster® Plus
An Exclusive ‘Cooked’ Tub Supplement from
ADM Alliance Nutrition™ Utilizing Biuret

You Get What You Pay For
The grain and forage grown by American farmers and livestock producers is the finest feed produced in the world. But, in these feeds there are more meat and milk than livestock can extract without special nutritional help. Since 1885, we have been providing the highest quality nutritional products, services, and on-site guidance to livestock producers, helping them achieve the greatest possible return from the grain and forage they utilize in livestock production.

What is Roughage Buster Plus?
Roughage Buster Plus is a supplement in a cooked molasses tub form. It is designed to provide crude protein, scientifically formulated base and trace minerals plus vitamins A, D3, and E, to cattle on pasture or high-roughage rations. The crude protein is primarily supplied by Alliance Nutrition’s exclusive product biuret, a non-protein nitrogen source, which is gradually released in the rumen. Roughage Buster Plus is available in 250 lb plastic tubs.

Why use Biuret?
Protein is one of the most expensive nutrients to supplement in the diet. Protein from non-protein nitrogen (NPN) is relatively inexpensive, but the most common source of NPN, urea, is released too rapidly in the rumen, as shown in the chart below, to be well utilized in high-roughage diets. This rapid release can cause ammonia toxicity in some instances. Due to biuret’s unique chemical properties, it is released more gradually in the rumen compared to urea. Research shows biuret has a nitrogen release curve similar to that of soybean meal. Biuret provides a more cost-effective protein source than urea and a higher level of safety against ammonia toxicity. Plus, the gradual release of biuret in the rumen enables better forage digestion throughout the day compared to a urea supplement only.

How is Roughage Buster Plus Different from Other Cooked or Poured Molasses Products?
Roughage Buster Plus is scientifically formulated by Alliance Nutrition™ and contains the base and trace mineral formulas researched by Alliance Nutrition to be most effective for forage digestion. It also contains biuret, a low level of urea, and multiple source proteins to achieve sustained nitrogen release which is needed to maintain efficiency of the rumen to better digest forages. No other cooked or poured molasses product contains this combination of ingredients to help cattle gain the most from forages they consume.

Roughage Buster Plus Advantages

  • More efficient utilization of forage sources.

  • Provides needed protein, minerals, and vitamins. A nutritionally balanced diet will result in better cow condition, more milk production, better breed back, and better feed efficiency.

  • Encourages faster gain in growing cattle and developing heifers.

  • Convenient and readily consumed.

  • Safe.

 Research Proves Biuret Works

Research Results Have Proven Biuret Works!
Research has demonstrated that biuret is effective in increasing roughage digestibility, which results in improved body condition and reproductive performance.

Utah State UniversityCows supplemented on native range with either biuret or cottonseed meal finished the season 11 lb heavier than non-supplement controls.

North Carolina State University Biuret-fed heifers gained 0.24 lb more per day and required 3 lb less silage per pound of gain than those receiving 2 lb per day of a liquid urea/molasses supplement.

Alliance NutritionIn five trials, cows were wintered on corn stalks or stalkage for 78 days prior to calving and then switched to corn silage for 70 days post-calving. Cows supplemented with Roughage Buster came through the winter 69 lb heavier and had a 10% higher conception rate than those receiving just mineral.

USDA, Beltsville Heifer calves wintered on an alfalfa/timothy hay mixture gained 0.19 lb per day faster with biuret than with an all-urea supplement.

Roughage Buster Plus — Recommended Feeding Guidelines
Feed Roughage Buster Plus free choice to cattle on pasture or roughage rations. Make sure animals have adequate clean fresh water, pasture or roughage available, and are not starved for salt or minerals. Remove other sources of salt and minerals, and feed Roughage Buster Plus continuously. Provide at least one tub for every 15 - 20 animals. The consumption will vary according to the weight of the animal and the quality and quantity of available forage. If consumption is too high, supply additional salt or minerals, reduce the number of tubs available, or move the tub farther away from water sources or loafing areas. If consumption is too low, add additional tubs, or move the tub closer to water sources or loafing areas. If satisfactory consumption levels can still not be achieved, you may consider switching to another Alliance Nutrition supplement to gain consumption closer to target levels desired. In some cases, consumption higher or lower than normal levels may be adequate, based on the nutrient content of forages being fed. Test your forages to determine the actual needs of your animals. All consumption figures stated here are approximate. Refer to the product label for additional feeding instructions.

Caution: Consumption of this product by sheep and goats may result in copper toxicity.

Warning: Do not feed to animals producing milk for human consumption. This feed should be used only in accordance with the instructions furnished on the label.
