Prospector® Caramel Blocks
Discover the Wealth of Your Forage with Prospector Cattle Blocks

Prospector Caramel Blocks High-energy, low-moisture blocks deliver top performance and true value to cattle producers.

Caramel Blocks are available in 200 lb tubs, which reduce amount of time and labor associated with supplementation of cattle on pasture.

  • Caramel Blocks contain more nutrients and less moisture than conventional blocks

  • Fillers, binders, and hardeners are not used in the formulation of Caramel Blocks

  • Cattle get more nutrients and more energy with controlled intake

  • Nutrient intake is consistent – the slow, steady intake of nutrients increases
    utilization of forages

Optimizing Forage Utilization Optimizing utilization of energy in low-protein forages requires the presence of supplemental protein to stimulate digestion by rumen microbes. The value of supplemental protein, in terms of improving intake and digestibility of available forage, is illustrated in Table 1.

Improved utilization of forages can lead to better cow performance – cows gain more and are in better condition to deliver a strong, healthy calf. Figure 1 illustrates the effects of protein supplementation on cow body weight change pre- and post-calving.

Prospector Caramel Blocks provide the nutrients needed to efficiently utilize forages.

Prospector 14% Caramel Block Delivers high-energy in a moderate protein package for better quality forages. Ideal for mid-gestating cows, replacement heifers, and stockers.

Prospector 20% Caramel Plus Block This product is the most popular Caramel Block among cattle producers. The all-natural 20% protein and elevated phosphorus differentiates this product from the others. It yields good performance with average-quality forages, especially during late gestation and post-calving.

Prospector 20/10 Caramel Block This block delivers energy and protein in one convenient package. The combination of energy and 10% non-protein nitrogen makes for a cost-effective supplement program. It works well with average-quality forage for mid-gestation cows, replacement heifers, and stockers.

Prospector 32/16 Caramel Plus Block This product provides high protein for use with low-protein forages. It contains 16% non-protein nitrogen so availability of adequate energy supply is necessary. The elevated phosphorus and vitamin E make it perfect for late gestation and post-calving cows.

Prospector Hi-Mag Block The Hi-Mag Block is designed for seasonal use when grass tetany may be a problem for cattle grazing lush, rapidly growing grass or legumes.

Prospector Car-Min Block The nutrient profile of this mineral-vitamin block is suited for summer grazing programs, mid-gestation cows, or replacement heifers. It provides the convenience of consistent mineral supplementation without weather-related losses.

Feeding Directions
Prospector Caramel or Caramel Plus Blocks are designed for self-feeding to growing cattle and mature breeding cattle on pasture. Cattle should consume Caramel or Caramel Plus Blocks at the rate of 0.5 - 1.5 lb/hd/day. Car-Min Blocks should be consumed at the rate of 0.25 - 0.75 lb/hd/day. Use one 200-lb tub (block) for each 20-25 head of cattle. In large pastures, tubs should be available in more than one location.

Feeding Tips
Prospector Caramel Blocks are designed to be fed free-choice; therefore, consumption will vary depending on the quantity and/or quality of available forage, condition and size of the animal, previous feeding program, and feeding location. Cattle may need an adaptation period before consistent and correct consumption is achieved.

If consumption is below recommended amount, examine forage quality and the block feeding program, such as location of block. If consumption is higher than desired, the quantity and/or quality of forage may to be increased. If the forage source and supply is adequate, place the blocks further away from loafing or watering areas and at the same time, reduce the number of blocks available to cattle.

Warning: Blocks should be used only in accordance with feeding instructions. Due to the amount of copper in Prospector Caramel Blocks, they should not be fed to sheep or goats.
