What is a Mintrate® XL Tub?
An exclusive 250 lb self -fed tub supplement designed to provide crude protein,  scientifically formulated base and trace minerals, plus Vitamin A, D, and E, to cattle on pasture or high roughage rations. The crude protein is supplied from either Alliance Nutrition exclusive product Biuret, distillers grains, condensed distillers solubles, multiple source oil meals, and low level of urea. Mintrate XL Tubs have ingredients which promote maximum forage intake and digestibility.

Why Use Biuret?
Protein is one of the most expensive nutrients to supplement in the diet. Protein from nonprotein nitrogen (NPN) is relatively inexpensive, but the most common source of NPN, urea, is released too rapidly in the rumen, as shown in the chart,
to be well utilized in high roughage diets. This rapid release can cause ammonia toxicity in some instances. Due to Biuret's unique chemical properties, Biuret is released more gradually in the rumen compared to urea. Research shows Biuret has a nitrogen release curve similar to that of soybean meal. Biuret gives you a more cost effective protein source than urea and gives a higher level of safety against ammonia toxicity. Plus, the more gradual release of Biuret in the rumen gives better forage digestion throughout the day than a urea supplement only.

Why Use Multiple Source Proteins With Biuret In The Mintrate XL Tubs ?
The unique combination of either Biuret, distillers grains, condensed distillers solubles,
multiple source oil meals, and low level of urea, provides a constant, uniform release of ammonia nitrogen in the rumen to maximize rumen function. In addition, multiple source proteins provide available protein beyond the rumen (bypass) which enhances overall animal performance.

This group of protein sources, plus the balanced, essential minerals and vitamins, provides needed nutrients to rumen microorganisms for more efficient fiber digestion. The result is maximum forage intake and maximum rumen function, which results in optimum animal performance.

Why do Mintrate XL Tubs Have Different Protein Levels?
Mintrate XL Tubs have been formulated to provide approximately 0.3 lb of protein per head per day at the mid-range consumption target. Differences in forage quality and quantity make it necessary to have different products to achieve this target level. The chart below gives a general guide of when to use the different Mintrate XL Tub products:

How Do Mintrate® XL Tubs Compare To Other Tubs On The Market?
Many tubs available utilize molasses as an energy source and urea as the major protein source. Molasses provides a source of sugar to cattle which may depress fiber digestion. Urea is broken down quickly in the rumen into ammonia. This quick ammonia release makes urea an inefficient source of ammonia for sustained maximum rumen function. In some cases, this quick ammonia release can cause ammonia toxicity.

Mintrate XL Tubs do not contain high levels of readily digestible sugars like the molasses based products. Mintrate XL Tubs utilize multiple source proteins,  scientifically researched levels of base and trace minerals with vitamins, a low level of urea, and Biuret in almost all tubs to maximize forage digestion in the rumen which leads to optimum animal performance. No other tub provides this combination to give you the performance you want from your cattle.

Additional Advantages of Mintrate XL Tubs
     • Promote maximum forage intake, digestibility, and forage energy utilization
     • Optimum cattle performance
     • Palatable source of valuable bypass protein
     • Energy primarily from highly-digestible fiber, not sugars and starches
     • Maximum production of forage digesting rumen microbes
     • Proprietary manufacturing process sets the industry standard for quality and
        consistency in tub production
     • Intake control options suited to almost every type of available forage and operation
     • Low daily free choice consumption for optimum performance with a lower cost
        per head per day
     • Less labor, less waste, and less storage space compared to cubes, cakes,
and other high volume, labor intensive, hand-fed products

Mintrate XL Tubs - Recommended Feeding Guidelines
Feed Mintrate XL Tubs free-choice to cattle on pasture or roughage rations. Make sure animals have adequate clean fresh water, pasture or roughage available and are not starved for salt or minerals. Remove other sources of salt and minerals and feed Mintrate XL Tubs continuously. A two week adaptation period may be required to establish a base consumption. Provide at least one tub for every 15-20 animals. The consumption will vary according to the weight of the animal and the quality and quantity of available forage. If consumption is too high, supply additional salt or minerals, reduce the number of tubs available, or move the tub farther away from water sources or loafing areas. If consumption is too low, add additional tubs or move the tub closer to water sources or loafing areas. If satisfactory consumption levels can still not be achieved, you may consider switching to another Alliance Nutrition supplement to gain consumption closer to target levels desired. In some cases, consumption higher or lower than normal levels may be adequate based on the nutrient content of forages being fed. Test your forages to determine the actual needs of your animals. All consumption figures stated here are approximate. Consult product label sheet for additional feeding instructions.

Warning: Do not feed to animals producing milk for human consumption. This feed should be used only in accordance with the instructions furnished on the label.

Caution: Consumption of this product by sheep and goats
                    may result in copper toxicity.
