I know that these new bags are called plastic or poly, but what are they actually made of?

They are woven polypropylene bags laminated with BOPP (biaxially oriented polypropylene) film.

Are all poly bags alike?

No. There are many different types with different features.  We evaluated many types before making our selection.

Are these new poly bags stronger?

Yes. In our tests, the poly bags that we have selected have been found to be more durable than the bags they are replacing.

What about the feed? Will the feed remain fresh?

Yes. We have performed numerous tests on many different forms of feed (including texturized feed and cubes) using the poly bags – in every case, the poly bags protected the feed at least as well, and, in many instances, there was dramatic improvement.

Since these bags are better, will this increase the cost of a bag of feed?

No. There will be no increase in feed price associated with the change to poly bags.

Will the change to poly bags occur all at once?

No. The bag change over will occur as paper bag inventory with specific designs are depleted and the new poly bags become available.

Are there different “rules” for disposal of the empty poly bags?

No.  BOPP woven bags are recyclable and can reduce the impact on landfills as the woven poly bag material weighs much less than the standard paper bags, which corresponds to a significant annual reduction in post-use solid waste generation.
