Horse Feed Facts,
a discussion of modern horse nutrition and feeding, is
brought to you in a new four-part series by ADM Alliance
Nutrition. Agriculture broadcaster Max Armstrong, equine
nutritionist Dr. Judith A. Reynolds, and Equine Specialist Pat Cassady discuss the importance of forage-based rations, vitamins
and minerals, energy sources and customized feeding programs. The
format is supported by phone calls from some of the equine
industry’s leading horse trainers and clinicians. For many years,
horses have been fed large amounts of cereal grains in order to
increase performance potential. Unfortunately, since the equine
digestive system is made to process good-quality forages, not
large amounts of cereal grains, many horses have become
susceptible to dangerous digestive and metabolic disorders such as
colic, founder, tying-up and gastric ulcers. The newest research
shows that feeding programs based on good-quality forage and
balanced with fermentable fibers and fats rather than cereal
grains result in horses with greater performance potential, more
trainable attitudes and less risk of digestive and metabolic
disorders. Horse Feed Facts brings insight into the changing world
of equine nutrition, feeding and management and provides specific
information to help you improve your enjoyment of your horses,
regardless of your chosen discipline or sport.
