MoorMan’s® GROSTRONG® Mintrate® for Horses
Product No. 594
A Protein, Vitamin, Mineral Supplement for All Classes of Horses

GROSTRONG Mintrate supplies vital nutrients
Mineral and vitamin supplementation is necessary for horses for several reasons:

  • Required for digestion and utilization of feedstuffs and for most metabolic processes

  • Due to mineral depletion of soils, feedstuff nutrient value is lower

  • Mineral and vitamin content of forages varies greatly

  • Due to vitamin-mineral interactions, these nutrients need to be supplied in the correct amounts and proportions to achieve optimum performance

Supplemental protein may be required by horses based on growth requirements, reproductive stage, and forage quality.

GROSTRONG Mintrate provides necessary protein, minerals, and vitamins to complement forages, grains and feeds, helping horses reach their performance potential. GROSTRONG Mintrate combines the advantages of GROSTRONG Minerals with high-quality protein sources. It is the result of unsurpassed formulation expertise and leading edge technology. Over 100 years of formulation and manufacturing expertise back the reliability and nutritional soundness of GROSTRONG Mintrate. GROSTRONG Mintrate, a FORAGE FIRST® Mineral and Vitamin Product, is a key component of the FORAGE FIRST program. FORAGE FIRST programs combine good-quality forage, GROSTRONG vitamin-mineral products, and energy-based products, when needed, to produce balanced total rations. With this combination of feeds, horses can be healthy and perform at their best when fed less grain than they would receive from traditional horse rations. Consequently, horses are at less risk of metabolic and digestive disorders and Developmental Orthopedic Diseases that may result from high starch intake.

Product Description
GROSTRONG Mintrate is a high-quality, pelleted, protein-vitamin-mineral product designed for use in situations where additional protein is needed, especially in rations for growing horses and gestating and lactating broodmares.

Features & Benefits:
Formulated specifically for horses – Horse nutrient requirements can be specifically addressed, which allows product to be designed to provide the amounts of protein, vitamins, and minerals needed specifically by horses.

100+ years of livestock nutrition – To assure horse owners of our commitment to ensuring high-quality products, research and manufacturing experience that perform.

Contains GROSTRONG Minerals – To ensure horses receive 27 major minerals, trace minerals, vitamins, and electrolytes in the correct amounts and ratios for maintenance, growth, reproduction, and performance.

Provides complexed (organic) ZinPro* trace minerals (Zn, Mn, Cu, Co) – To increase availability of minerals when used in conjunction with inorganic mineral sources, which could be crucial to young horses; gives an edge on mineral absorption. *Not an ADM trademark

Provides 33% high-quality protein – To ensure essential amino acid needs are met for maintenance, growth, reproduction, and performance.

Optimum amounts of protein, vitamins and minerals – To enable horses to reach their genetic potential by providing key amounts of protein, vitamins, and minerals lacking in feedstuffs.

Provides direct fed microbials – To enable more efficient metabolism of nutrients from the foregut, resulting in better nutrient utilization of the entire ration.

Provides Prosponse® yeast – Studies have shown brewers’ dried yeast enhances feed palatability, digestibility, and hindgut fermentation.

Provides natural-source vitamin E – To protect body tissues from oxidative damage. The need for vitamin E is vital to immune system functioning and may be especially important for growing and working horses as they are more prone to exercise-induced muscle damage. Natural-source vitamin E is more bio-available than synthetic vitamin E.

Pellet form – Better nutrient digestibility and absorption; easy-to-feed and reduces feed waste.

Highly palatable with addition of apple flavoring – To encourage feed consumption.

Product Form/Packaging: Pelleted form in 50 lb bags.

How Much is Needed? 0.5 to 2 lb per horse daily, top-dressed over other feeds or incorporated into the feed or mix.

Corn should be cracked or steam-flaked for growing horses. Oats may be fed whole, crimped or rolled. Grain mixes with higher digestible fiber and less starch (to minimize digestive disorders) are recommended, and can be made by replacing some of the oats and/or corn with alfalfa pellets and/or soybean hull pellets. For custom feeding suggestions, call 1 800-680-8254.

SALT: A basic level of salt is included in GROSTRONG Mintrate for Horses. However, the salt required by horses varies with level of activity and should be offered free-choice.

Questions & Answers about GROSTRONG Mintrate

1. Q. How should GROSTRONG Mintrate be fed?
    A. GROSTRONG Mintrate is designed to be mixed with feed, grain and/or forage.
See Instructions for Feeding for specific rations.

2. Q. Why is it necessary to use different levels of GROSTRONG Mintrate in the feed or
grain mix for various classes of horses?
    A. Nutrient requirements of a horse vary depending on age, degree of use, and classification.
Varying the amount of GROSTRONG Mintrate in the feed or grain mix according to age, use,
and class of horse allows the horse’s nutrient needs to be met more precisely.

3. Q. Should salt be fed free-choice with GROSTRONG Mintrate?
    A. A basic amount of salt is included in GROSTRONG Mintrate. However, the total salt
requirement of a horse varies with the level of activity.
Salt should be provided free-choice to hard-working horses.

4. Q. Does GROSTRONG Mintrate provide adequate vitamins for the lactating broodmare?
     A. Yes. GROSTRONG Mintrate provides 55,000 IU/lb of vitamin A and 500 IU/lb of vitamin E,
plus other important vitamins, such as D3, K, and B-complex vitamins (B12, niacin, thiamine,
          riboflavin, and pantothenic acid).

5. Q. Should GROSTRONG Minerals for Horses be fed along with GROSTRONG Mintrate?
    A. Rations based on GROSTRONG Mintrate supply adequate minerals for the average horse.
However, as mineral needs of individual horses may vary, it is a good management practice
         to supply GROSTRONG Minerals free-choice.
