Rumen By-pass Methionine Advantages

  • Fortifies diets lacking in methionine, the first limiting amino acid for milk protein synthesis.

  • Bypass methionine escapes degradation in the rumen, providing absorbable methionine to the small intestine.

  • Increased milk protein — A concentrated high rumen-bypass methionine source can help overcome ration methionine deficiency.

  • Research shows significant improvements in milk protein and milk yield can be achieved when metabolizable lysine and methionine needs are met along with maintaining approximately a 3:1 ratio of lysine to methionine.

  • Improved efficiency of utilization of metabolizable protein is accomplished when feeding diets balanced for methionine and lysine, reducing the metabolizable protein requirements and cutting ration cost.

  • University trials observed the following responses when encapsulated methionine was fed to cows prior to calving and during early lactation:

  • 3.75 lb/hd/day increase in milk yield

  • 0.20 lb/hd/day increase in milk protein yield

  • 0.20 lb/hd/day increase in milk fat yield

  • 0.10% to 0.20% increase in milk protein percentage

Rumen-Available Methionine Advantages
Hydroxy methyl butanoic acid (HMB), a source of methionine analog, has been shown in research trials to stimulate dry matter and fiber digestion in the rumen, thereby improving rumen function resulting in stimulation of milk fat synthesis.

  • HMB has been shown to alter rumen fermentation by increasing acetate and butyrate production, allowing for production of more milk fat.

  • HMB may enhance microbial lipid synthesis, which increases the quantity of total lipids available for milk fat production.

  • A three point increase in milk fat percentage was obtained when cows were supplemented with HMB (Rode et al., 1997). This increase contributed to a 0.44 lb (200 g) increase in daily milk fat, improving gross income.

HMB has been shown to increase efficiency of microbial protein synthesis, which increases microbial protein’s contribution in meeting metabolizable protein requirements.

Stimerall i Offers ......

  • A concentrated source of highly available rumen-bypass methionine (80% of the methionine is available for absorption) — Beneficial for production of milk protein and milk yield.

  • Protected amino acid technology—Methionine sources escape degradation in the rumen and are released in the small intestine for absorption. Research shows the encapsulated methionine used in Stimerall i increases blood methionine concentration in lactating cows, improving milk protein percentage.

  • HMB, a highly rumen-available methionine analog (95% of HMB is available to rumen microbes) — Beneficial to rumen fermentation.

  • Inclusion rate — 0.25 lb/hd/daily (provides 3.90g absorbable bypass methionine and 20 g methionine analog/day).

  • Flexibility — Can be used in a TMR or top-dressed on ration.

  • Ration balancing efficiency — Cuts inefficiencies associated with overfeeding protein and reduces manure nitrogen excretion.

To ensure the ratio of lysine to methionine is correct, evaluate the total ration for lysine content prior to feeding Stimerall i. The best and most consistent responses to feeding Stimerall i is obtained prior to freshening and during early lactation.
